Introducción: El estudiante de danza presenta una elevada exigencia, por la técnica y el talento que debe poseer y el desarrollo de una figura esbelta y delgada que es necesario mantener.

El objetivo del estudio fue describir las características antropométricas y los hábitos alimentarios de estudiantes de danza.

Materiales y métodos: Muestra: 16 estudiantes femeninas de danza clásica de 8 a 14 años. Variables estudiadas: hábitos alimentarios y variables antropométricas.

Resultados: El promedio de edad fue 11,58 a˜nos. El de IMC fue 15,91 kg/m2 (DS 1,43), donde un 62,5% fue normal, la sumatoria de pliegues fue en promedio 52 mm (DS 9,99, valor min 38 y máx 67 mm). El porcentaje de masa muscular fue superior al de masa adiposa, 35,73% (DS 2,8) vs. 32,37% (DS 4,2). Los kg de masa muscular y adiposa fueron de 12, 23 kg (DS 2,85) y 10,96 kg (DS 3,45) respectivamente.

El índice musculo/óseo fue 2,45 (DS 0,24) y el índice adiposo/muscular de 0,9 (DS 0,17).

La mayoría realizó las 4 comidas diarias y consumió lácteos y carnes adecuadamente. El 37,5% realizó un inadecuado desayuno, un 44 y 75% presentó un consumo inadecuado de verduras y frutas, respectivamente.

Conclusiones: La cuestión principal no deber ser bajar de peso, sino cambiar la figura a expensas de una reducción adecuada de la grasa corporal sin perder significativamente masa muscular, ni afectar el aprendizaje continuo de la técnica artística y los procesos normales de crecimiento, maduración y desarrollo.

Introduction: Dance student has a high demand, due to technical and talent they have possess, as well as the development of a slender and slim figure that has to be maintained.

The aim of the study was to describe the anthropometric characteristics and eating habits of dance students.

Materials and methods: Sample: 16 female students of classical dance 8-14 years. Variables studied: Eating habits and anthropometric variables.

Results: The mean age was 11.58 years. The BMI was 15.91 kg/m2 (SD 1.43), of whom 62.5% were normal. The sum of folds had a mean of 52 mm (SD 9.99, range 38 to 67 mm).
