Introducció: Els estudis publicats demostren que la gent gran que practica activitat física té millor qualitat de vida, funcionalitat i equilibri. Aquest estudi té com a objectiu observar canvis de la força explosiva i de la capacitat d’equilibri de la gent gran, després d’una intervenció de millora de la força funcional.

Material i mètodes: Participaren a l’estudi 27 subjectes físicament actius de 69,2 ± 4,9 anys i 1,613 ± 0,092 m d’alçada. Es féu una presa de dades inicial, 8 setmanes d’intervenció (2 sessions a la setmana) i una presa de dades final. S’aplicà un test de salt amb contramoviment sobre una plataforma de forces Quattro Jump (Kistler, Suïssa) i un test de límits d’estabilitat amb la trajectòria del centre de pressió sobre una plataforma de forces 9281CA (Kistler, Suïssa). Tres mesos després d’haver finalitzat la intervenció es féu un test de seguiment.

Resultats: S’observà un augment de rigidesa en les extremitats inferiors (p < 0,01) i una disminució de l’alçada de salt (p < 0,05) en el test de salt amb contramoviment. En el test dels límits d’estabilitat s’obtingué un augment de l’àrea i de la velocitat mitjana de desplaçament del centre de pressió després de la intervenció (p < 0,05). Aquesta millora es mantingué després d’un període de seguiment de 3 mesos.

Conclusió: L’entrenament de la força funcional de la gent gran ha millorat els límits d’estabilitat del centre de pressió, per tant n’ha millorat l’equilibri, malgrat que es tracta d’un grup de gent gran físicament activa.

Introduction: Published research studies show that elderly subjects who do physical activities achieve a better quality of life, functional abilities and balance. This study aimed to observe changes produced in explosive power and balancing ability after an intervention to improve functional strength.

Material and methods: 27 physically active subjects aged 69.2 ± 4.9 years with a height of 1.613 ± 0.092 m participated. The method was as follows: initial data were gathered at the beginning, 8 weeks of intervention (2 sessions a week) and then data were gathered again at the end.
