No hi ha una evidència bioquímica clara com per afirmar que la producció de lactat causa acidosi, sinó més aviat tot el contrari, ja que el lactat retarda i no causa laparició de lacidosi. A més de la manipulació prèvia a un esdeveniment esportiu de les condicions acidobàsiques del medi intern, mitjançant lús dajudes ergogèniques com poden ser el bicarbonat o el citrat sòdic, els hàbits alimentaris de lesportista també hi poden exercir un paper important.
